The Passenger describes itself as a book-magazine that brings together long reads, investigative journalism, literary reportage and narrative essays, with the aim of telling the story of the life of a place and its inhabitants: its shifting culture, the development of its identity, the debates, the issues, the problems and the wounds. Each volume is complemented by infographics, original illustrations, recommendations from a well-known author, a section of debunked 'false myths', and, in collaboration with the photography agency Prospekt, original photographs commissioned from an international photographer sent to the country. It is a project of the Italian publishing house Iperborea, which says that after more than thirty years spent exploring the North it now opens to the rest of the world. The publisher frames it as a one-of-a-kind travel guide that does not answer where, how and when, but why; English editions appear in partnership with Europa Editions.
