BL8D calls itself an alternative trend book - one that works not with textile cards and colour palettes but with concepts. Together with artists, historians, photographers and art critics, each issue looks for answers to questions that 'vibrate in the space of time in which we live', aiming to form a key image that carries a historical background, references contemporary art and can go on to become a design product or art object. The name, ['blu:d], is a Slavic word for meandering or wandering - a winding path taken in search of an eternally elusive beauty. Volume 3, 'Biutiful. Little Tragedies from the Lives of Mortals', is built as seven monologues about death, written and illustrated by the artists who contributed to it.
